Thanks to support from Canada Service Corps, Howl is excited to be able to provide youth with small, one-time cash payments (“micro-grants”) of up to $5,000 to carry out innovative youth-led community projects. 

This is an opportunity for youth to take ownership of an issue, propose a solution and implement change at a local level.

Program objectives

  • Create, promote, and facilitate access to volunteer service opportunities that are meaningful to youth

  • Give youth the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, tools, and supports they need to successfully complete their projects

Operations advisor

Indigenous Leadership Initiative

The ILI is seeking a strategic, community-centred Operations Advisor to join our team. The Operations Advisor will provide operations support and strategic guidance for Indigenous Nations advancing Indigenous-led conservation, stewardship, and informed decision-making on lands and waters.

The Operations Advisor will be part of ILI’s interdisciplinary team focusing on a range of Indigenous conservation initiatives, such as: Indigenous Guardians, Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs), and work related to Nature Climate Solutions, Indigenous wildfire stewardship, and culturally grounded conservation economics such as evaluation and social return on investment.

The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of these domains and demonstrate a working knowledge of others. They will recognize how these areas of work are interconnected and how they strengthen Nationhood. They will bring experience and knowledge working with Indigenous Nations and organizations. And they will thrive in being part of a highly productive team that is diverse in expertise and backgrounds, supports open communication, and works collaboratively. Preference will be given to Indigenous peoples. Candidates who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify in their cover letter.

Program Assistant

Waterways Recreation Inc.

Programming Assistants will work with Program Leaders to develop and run canoe programming, focusing on the well-being and culture of Indigenous youth in Indigenous communities and urban areas.

In most cases, this will require travel and overnight stints in Indigenous communities, returning home on weekends. Programs are typically organized as day camps for Indigenous youth, but camp activities can vary from week to week depending on the community’s priorities, participants, weather, and the particular talents of Program Leaders and Assistants.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to adapt to change, solve problems, and work well with others. Training will be provided to ensure all staff have the required safety and canoeing certifications, as well as knowledge of working with Indigenous communities and teaching land and water-based activities to Indigenous youth.

Communications Team Lead

This role is responsible for shaping and producing clear, compelling communications that support Living Lakes Canada’s programs, strengthen brand visibility, and build relationships with media, government, partners, and supporters.

The Communications Lead serves as the organization’s primary writer and communications integrator, working closely with program leads across approximately ten active initiatives. The role also provides supervision to two 0.25 FTE Communications Assistants.

This is a manager-level role for someone who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution and is comfortable working independently within a collaborative nonprofit team.

Hemlock Conservation Team Member

As a member of the Hemlock Conservation Team, your primary responsibility will be to apply pesticides safely and efficiently to protect old-growth hemlock trees across southwestern Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be competent in forest navigation and able to work in inclement weather and challenging site conditions. Every team member must possess or be willing to obtain a pesticide applicator certification. Digital marketing strategist

Canadian Geographic | Biinaagami

Biinaagami is an Indigenous-guided initiative that connects learners of all ages to the lands and waters of the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence watershed. The project was shaped by a Shared Circle of Indigenous voices and continues to be guided through a two-eyed seeing approach, braiding both Indigenous and non-Indigenous ways of knowing. The initiative includes an education program with a giant floor map that travels to classrooms across the country, ongoing storytelling that reaches millions of readers through the Canadian Geographic magazine and an active outreach program that engages hundreds of thousands of people each year.

The Climate Campaigner will advance Sierra Club BC’s climate campaign goals by combining policy expertise with exceptional communication skills and public engagement strategies. They will help identify the key drivers of B.C. climate policy and craft strategies and actions to mobilize public support, influence decision-makers, and accelerate the transition to a just, low-carbon economy. This includes translating complex climate issues into clear, compelling messages, building coalitions, and leveraging digital tools and social media to educate, inspire, and drive meaningful action across communities.

The Fireweed Institute exists to build a thriving Indigenous entrepreneurship ecosystem. We are looking for a proactive and community-rooted Project Officer to help implement and evolve our Innovation programming, and to support the logistics and execution of our broader programming initiatives. This role is ideal for someone passionate about entrepreneurship, with lived or professional experience in Indigenous contexts, and with an aptitude for innovation programming, facilitation, and working directly with entrepreneurs. The Officer will play a hands-on role in program design and implementation and manage field deployments such as travel to Indigenous communities with our mobile makerspace, building relationships, and demonstrating entrepreneurial prototyping tools and practices. They will also manage junior and summer-student staff to execute project activities.

Youth engagement coordinator

The Youth Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and adaptively managing the Young Leaders in Conservation Program (YLICP), as well as other programming and initiatives designed to increase youth engagement and participation in conservation advocacy.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this role works closely with both the Ocean and Land & Freshwater Conservation teams to lead a program that empowers and educates youth on conservation issues, leadership skills, and environmental advocacy. The Coordinator will also build on and continue to develop outreach and engagement activities targeted specifically at youth, with a goal of increasing both awareness and action among this demographic.

Through the support of the Indigenous Climate Change and Clean Energy Directorate at CIRNAC, the Indigenous-led Climate Hub is producing a series of podcasts in 2024-26 that will capture and share the vital stories of Indigenous Peoples and communities creating innovative solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation. These narratives will be featured on the Indigenous Climate Hub podcast web page and social media as part of a broader initiative to amplify Indigenous environment perspectives and climate change solutions. The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed are the speaker’s own and do not represent the views, thoughts, and opinions of the Indigenous Climate Hub. The podcast series is being developed by Okwaho Equal Source, with Indigenous leadership at its core.

Indigenous Canada Program: Cuso Micro-Grants

Cuso will provide small grants of up to $5,000 to Indigenous Youth Leaders (ages 15-30) to support projects taking place in Northern Canada. Youth Leaders (Grantees) will receive mentorship, training, and capacity-building to support the implementation of the project. 

Projects will: 

1. Be designed and implemented by Indigenous Youth: Focus on programming, training, or capacity building opportunities for Indigenous youth (ages 15-30), based on specific needs in communities. The micro-grant can be used as a steppingstone to start a larger project or implement a new idea. 

2. Contribute to one or more of:  

  • Reconciliation 

  • Building an Inclusive Canada 

  • Preserving the environment 

  • Strengthening youth resilience 

3. Benefit at least 10 youth (including the Youth leader). Projects can involve and benefit other actors in addition to the Indigenous Youth, ex. parents, teachers, adults, Elders, etc.

Program Associate, education

As part of the Conservation Area Programs and Services team, this role is responsible for educational and recreational program delivery, cultural interpretation, special event programming and other activities as assigned. Duties may include delivering educational and recreational programs such as field trips and day camps to children, youth and adults, as well as leading guided hikes and tours of historical buildings to park visitors. This role is responsible for safely delivering exceptional and engaging educational programs, articulating curriculum-linked content, maintaining programming spaces and materials, providing excellent customer service to participants//students/visitors, as well as ensuring the safety of program participants.

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is excited to relaunch its Indigenous Youth Wellness Honorarium! These honorariums are intended for Indigenous Youth engaged in frontline activism and/or climate justice organizing. At ICA we know that financial and mental health barriers often impact Indigenous Peoples when engaging in climate justice work. By creating this fund we hope to remove some of those barriers that come up when upholding our sacred responsibilities.
