We are empowering the next generation of climate decision-makers. And it starts with youth in the Global South.

The Youth Negotiator Exchange and Training (Y-NEXT) Program aims to meaningfully engage youth in international climate policy processes while providing assistance to Small Island Developing States’ (SIDS) delegations and other small country delegations across all negotiating streams at Conferences of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Y-NEXT builds off the Seychelles Support Team (SST), a policy program we co-developed with SIDS Youth Aims Hub (SYAH)-Seychelles and the Seychelles Government to train Seychellois and non-Seychellois youth and pair them with government negotiators. At both COP23 in Bonn, Germany and COP24 in Katowice, Poland, SST members increased the capacity of the Seychelles delegation through the provision of note-taking, tracking and reporting of issues during negotiations and side events. At COP24, the Seychelles delegation benefited from the over 618 hours research and synthesis that SST members provided, while SST members gained access to the full extent of the negotiations as Party delegates, spoke with thought leaders in climate policy, and formed connections around the world.
